While most surgeries are done routinely at Weston Creek Veterinary Hospital, some surgical procedures fall within a specialist's domain.

If this were the case with your pet, we would discuss with you the options regarding the proposed surgical treatment plan, and then make arrangements for you and your pet to see the specialist for further assessment before the surgery.

We generally refer clients and their pets to the following specialist surgeons:

Dr. Sarah Webb is a specialist surgeon based at Gungahlin Veterinary Hospital.

She offers a wealth of surgical knowledge and skill in chest surgeries, abdominal surgeries, orthopedics and many other complex procedures. She also utilises endoscopic equipment, which allows examination of the nose, throat, bronchi, oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, as well as the bladder, with a tiny camera. This often avoids diagnostic surgery (e.g. to obtain biopsies) from these body systems.

Dr. Tony Black heads the team at the Northern Sydney Veterinary Specialist Centre, which is located at North Turramurra in Sydney's north. He offers a wealth of experience with orthopaedic procedures, and Weston Creek Veterinary Hospital has referred a number of patients to Dr. Black for total hip replacements and other procedures. The North Sydney Veterinary Specialist Centre also also offers arthroscopy, specialist radiography, fracture repair and Magnetic Resonance Imaging - M.R.I. is a very effective way of diagnosing some spinal and brain problems.

Dr. Geraldine Hunt is a veterinary cardiovascular surgeon and a Professor at the University of Sydney Teaching Hospital, Camperdown campus. Her particular focus of surgery and research has been porto-systemic shunting and cardiac abnormalities in dogs.

Dr. David Lidbetter is a surgical specialist at the Parramatta Veterinary Surgical Specialist Centre.  He provides a wide range of surgical services including arthroscopic surgery, hip surgery, stifle surgery, spinal surgery, surgical oncology and advanced reconstructive surgery among others.
